Mary Tate's Almshouses

Mary Tate’s Almshouses offers accessible accommodation in the centre of Mitcham in a historic building of character. Conveniently located opposite Mitcham Common, a short walk from shops and bus stops, the Almshouse building comprises seven separate cottages. Each of these has its own front door and includes a spacious living room and bedroom with built-in cupboards, as well as a modernised kitchen and a bathroom. Each flat also has a small patio area at the rear, facing a peaceful communal area with allotments.

Social Activities

Mary Tate’s Almshouses residents are invited to events at Elis David Almshouses, such as our Founders’ Day Tea, and also have the opportunity to meet and socialise at home.

Management and costs

Mary Tate’s Almshouses are managed on a day-to-day basis by the staff of The Croydon Almshouse Charities, and the Support Team pays weekly visits to residents. In addition, Mascot Telecare provide on call emergency assistance. Residents pay a weekly maintenance contribution for their accommodation, which is collected each calendar month. All utility costs and council tax are paid by them directly.
