Charity Director – voluntary position

Croydon Almshouses Charities is looking to recruit an HR specialist to a voluntary position on the Board of our Company, which acts as the corporate Trustee for the Charities.

The main focus of the Charity, which was founded in 1447, is the provision of supported housing accommodation to the elderly in Croydon and Mitcham, through our modern, purpose-built Elis David Almshouses in Croydon, which house up to 60 residents, and the historic Mary Tate’s Almshouses in Mitcham, which house seven residents.

Our mission is to provide:

  • high quality homes in a safe, secure and friendly environment, with a strong sense of community; and
  • responsive services to meet individual needs over time, to help residents to live independent and fulfilled lives.

A linked charity provides grants to individuals in need in Croydon and other local charitable organisations.

Whether you are an experienced Charity Director or Trustee or wanting to take your first steps at Board level, we would like to hear from you, to help provide effective governance of the Charities.

We are looking for an individual with a recognised HR qualification (CIPD) and experience of providing HR guidance and support at a senior level, with personal or professional links to Croydon.

We are seeking to achieve a greater diversity in our Board, and while welcoming applications from all backgrounds, particularly encourage black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates.

As a Director you will have:

  • Induction, training & reimbursable expenses
  • Opportunities to make strategic decisions
  • Influence to shape the development of the Charities and the services we provide
  • The chance to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of elderly people and others in need in Croydon and Mitcham.

The expected time commitment is four Board meetings per year and four sub-Committee meetings. Directors are also welcomed at various residents' functions.

Deadline for applications: Monday 8th March 2021
